The NorthWord
NorthWord is a daily Christian podcast from St. John's Fort Smith in collaboration with the Anglican Family. Hosted by Father Aaron from Fort Smith, Northwest Territories.
Here's how it works: Every Sunday we release the full sermon preached that morning. Then Monday through Saturday, you get 3-5 minute daily reflections based on that sermon - one thought you can actually use each day. Every Wednesday we explore the rhythm of Jesus' life and how his followers have lived it out for 2,000 years.
Whether you're Pentecostal, Orthodox, Baptist, Catholic, or just curious about faith - this is for you. Ancient faith. Real life. No fluff.
The Word. The North. Your Week.

Good morning. This is North Road.
SPEAKER_00Christ doesn't want a pound of you, he wants all of you. And when he gets it, your loves are not diminished. They are resurrected. Good morning. This is Northword, The Word, The North Your Week, a daily podcast from St. John's Fort Smith, in collaboration with the Anglican family. I'm your host, Father Aaron. Today's episode is brought to you by Standalone Energy Systems, sustainable energy solutions built for northern life. As Fort Smith continues to grow, standalone is helping build a more resilient future. Jesus says something that sounds wrong the first time we hear it, and we read it last Sunday in the Gospel. He says, I did not come to bring peace, I came to bring a sword. I think it was C.S. Lewis who said, He does not want a pound of you, he wants all of you. And when he gets there, there will be a cutting away from whatever is not ordered around him. That is the sword. If you love father or mother more than Christ, you are loving from the old nature. And listen, love outside of Christ is still love. It is real, it is genuine. But love that is still trying to fill an unmet need is disordered love. The form is right, the feeling is real, but it is aimed at the wrong thing, sourced in the wrong place. When Christ is placed first, when you are willing to die to the old wound, the old need, the old ordering of your life, your loves are not diminished. They are resurrected. Christosom said, Leave everyone for his sake, and you come back and possess everyone with greater love. You love your children more truly, not from fear of losing them, not from the need to be needed, but from the overflow of what Christ has already filled in you. You love your parents more truly, not from the wound, but from the wound that has been healed. Not less love, more, but sourced differently. This has been North Word, the Word, the North Your Week, a daily podcast from St. John's Fort Smith in collaboration with the Anglican family. The sword of Christ does not diminish your love, it resurrects it. Give from the overflow today, not from the wound. And use the text us link in the description to reach out. We would love to hear from you and where you are on your journey. Until tomorrow, may God be with you.
SPEAKER_01Amen.
