The NorthWord
NorthWord is a daily Christian podcast from St. John's Fort Smith in collaboration with the Anglican Family. Hosted by Father Aaron from Fort Smith, Northwest Territories.
Here's how it works: Every Sunday we release the full sermon preached that morning. Then Monday through Saturday, you get 3-5 minute daily reflections based on that sermon - one thought you can actually use each day. Every Wednesday we explore the rhythm of Jesus' life and how his followers have lived it out for 2,000 years.
Whether you're Pentecostal, Orthodox, Baptist, Catholic, or just curious about faith - this is for you. Ancient faith. Real life. No fluff.
The Word. The North. Your Week.

Good morning. This is Northword.
SPEAKER_01The striving life is not a burden. It is the most beautiful thing a human being can do. Good morning. This is Northword, The Word, The North, Your Week, a daily podcast from St. John's Fort Smith, in collaboration with the Anglican family. I'm your host, Father Aaron. Today's episode is brought to you by Standalone Energy Systems in Fort Smith, building a sustainable future for the North. This week, the topic on the podcast this week has been striving. And I want to make sure, as we close out the week, that I've not left you thinking that this is a burden. It's very easy if you listen back, uh, and if you're new to the podcast, I recommend listening back a few days to all that we've been talking about when it comes to the topic of striving. But it's very easy for us, I think, to see striving in life when Jesus calls us to strive and Paul calls us to strive as something that is a burden on us. The striving life is not a burden, though. It is the most beautiful thing a human being can do. Let me explain. Striving is to care about something more than your comfort, to commit to someone more than your convenience, to be willing to be chained, shaped, and formed because you have a glimpse of who you are meant to become. That's not a burden, that's actual freedom. This is what we've been building towards this whole week. The disciplined life, the faithful walk, the persistent prayer, the gracious community, the striving heart, that is what transforms a human being from someone going through the motions to someone actually truly alive. And the promise of the Bible, the promise of scripture is this that if you press through it, if you strive, if you commit the whole of your life to becoming like Christ, you will not regret it. Not in this life and not in the life to come. So the question is not, am I willing? The question is, what am I waiting for? Go and be that. Go and become that. Go and press through the narrow door. Go and strive. Go and let yourself be formed. Go and truly live.
